Message from Project Director, Directorate General of Religious Education

It indeed is the primary responsibility of any civilized nation to provide its children with a balanced and well-rounded education, develop them to their full potential, and nurture them into good citizens, conscious of their responsibilities to family, society, and the country.

Pakistan’s Education system is composed of three main streams i.e the Public Sector Education system, the Private Sector Education system, and the Madrassah Education system. Madrassah plays a very vital role in our education system as most of the children from lower strata of society are admitted to Madrassah since it provides boarding and lodging free of cost. The children join Madrassahs at a very early stage, are usually devoid of positive parental and societal influences, and are raised in a vacuum. The madrassahs primarily teach Dars e Nizami in the Arabic language, resultantly, the product of these institutions does not find equal employment opportunities in the society.  Feeling the need to reform the madrassahs and bring them into the mainstream education system, the Federal Government formulated a comprehensive strategy in 2019. Although there have been numerous efforts by various Governments in the past to reform Madaris, no worthwhile success was made in this direction because of multifarious factors. In 2019 Itehad Tanzeem ul Madaris (ITM) signed MOU with the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training to undertake reforms in the Madaris focused on five main points i.e all madaris of Pakistan would be registered with the Directorate General of Religious Education, all madaris will undertake contemporary education in three main subjects including English, Math, and General Sciences. The ministry would provide two teachers to each madrassah for imparting contemporary subjects. A national curriculum would be introduced in the Madaris and some vocational training would also be provided to students who desire special skills. The team DGRE, toiling to its optimum under the patronage of the Honorable Minister, Secretary MOFE&PT, and his staff.

May Allah guide and help us all, Ameen.
